Policies, Info & FAQ
Processing & Shipping Information
-
• Current processing time is between 1–3 weeks (Processing times are regularly updated in the announcement bar for a more accurate estimate).
Please only place an order if you’re happy and willing to wait, as I cannot guarantee an exact timeframe for individual orders to be prepared and dispatched. While I’ve listed up to 3 weeks, most orders are usually sent out within 2 weeks—sometimes even sooner during quieter periods. I like to allow a little leeway in case I need the extra time during busier periods or holidays. If you're in a rush (e.g., a new bird or birds coming into care), please contact me and I’ll do my best to accommodate!
• All toys are handmade to order, so please allow time for creation, earlier orders, and the realities of my workload and personal life. Your patience and understanding are genuinely appreciated. No toys or items are pre-made or kept in stock at Busy Beaks HQ. -
• Postage fees are weight-based. This means all items in my store have been weighed and the postage fee will depend on how large your order is. These fees are set accordingly through Australia Post, and cover both the postage and packaging fees. I do my best to offer affordable shipping costs alongside my toys, but there's only so much I can absorb—as a small business, it's unfortunately not always cheap.
• Orders are shipped via Australia Post in eco-friendly, recyclable packaging—including paper, tape, compostable parcel bags, and new or reused cardboard boxes. Tracking is provided.
• Due to biosecurity and quarantine restrictions, toys or items containing food or plant matter cannot be mailed to TAS or WA (e.g., items with grass hay, native seed pods, or similar materials). Some toys can be modified—such as swapping grass for paper—so please check the item dropdown options.
• If a restricted item is ordered from TAS or WA and contains hay, it will automatically be made using paper and wood shreds instead.
• Express shipping option is available to purchase as an add-on to your order here.
-
• International shipping is available to New Zealand, Canadian, and United States customers. Please note that all products in my store are shown in AUD prices.
• International customers are responsible to check with their countries customs office regarding the import of products, restrictions, prohibited items, taxes, tariffs, fees and any other applicable duties that are to be paid by the customer. Our shipping fees do not include VAT, duties, taxes, or any other importing fees. Busy Beaks will not be liable for fees and packages that are refused or held for delivery.
• Unfortunately, due to bio security and quarantine restrictions, any toys or items containing food or plant matter cannot be mailed outside of Australia (e.g., items with grass hay, native seed pods, or similar materials). Some toys can be modified—such as swapping grass for paper—so please check the item dropdown options. Please also note that any toys containing cork material, cannot be posted to United States.
• If a restricted item is ordered from your region that contains grass hay, it will automatically be made using paper and wood shreds instead.
-
• Please ensure that your shipping address is correct at checkout. We are unable to change the address once an order has been fulfilled. If an order is returned due to an incorrect or incomplete address, the customer will be responsible for purchasing a second shipping label for the order to be resent. We are not liable for lost or delayed orders due to incorrect address details provided at checkout.
• If an order is returned to us due to an incorrect address, failure to collect from the post office, or any other delivery issue outside of our control, the customer will have the following options:
Reshipping – We can resend the order, but the customer must pay a second shipping fee before the package is dispatched again.
Refund – If the customer no longer wants the order, we can issue a refund minus the original shipping fee. Refunds will not be available for custom or perishable items.
-
• For the health and safety of pets, and to prevent contamination, I do not accept returns if packages have been opened or items have been handled or used. However, if your parcel arrives with items that are damaged or unusable, I’m more than happy to organise a refund, store credit in the form of a discount voucher, or a replacement (depending on material availability at the time). Photo evidence of both the damaged items and packaging will be required.
• If you need to cancel an order and it hasn’t yet entered production or been packaged, please contact me as soon as possible and I’ll be happy to help. Most orders begin production within 7–14 days, so please check in regarding your order’s status before requesting a cancellation. Once an order has entered production, it will no longer be eligible for cancellation or refund. -

Promo Codes & Discounts
-
We are unable to adjust the price of an order once it has been purchased if you forget to apply a discount code. It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure that any discount codes are applied before completing their transaction. Busy Beaks Bird Toys cannot retroactively apply discounts or refund the difference after a purchase has been made.
-
You can enter your promo code at checkout before finalizing your order. Look for the "Discount Code" box on the payment page, type in your code, and click "Apply" to see the discount reflected before completing your purchase.
-
Promo codes are intended for individual use as specified in the promotion details. Excessive use, such as creating multiple accounts to reuse codes or sharing single-use codes beyond their intended purpose, may result in order cancellation. Busy Beaks Bird Toys reserves the right to deny or cancel orders where promo codes have been misused.
Toy Safety & Care
-
• Our toys are all made with love and care using safe materials. However, as no toy is ever 100% bird-safe, please supervise playtime when possible. Regularly check both new and existing toys, and remove any loose, hanging, or fraying parts to prevent accidents.
• All toys are free from metal, cotton, and fabric. However, even natural materials like seagrass, jute, or sisal are not intended to be consumed and may not be suitable for every pet—especially heavy chewers or birds prone to eating fibres. Please remove any toys or parts if you notice excessive chewing or swallowing.
• I cannot be held responsible for misuse of toys. You know your pet best, so please choose toys that suit their size and chewing style. If you are unsure on what toys would suit your small pet best, please don’t hesitate to contact me before placing an order! -
What is Seagrass?
Seagrass is a natural marine plant that grows in shallow ocean waters around the world. It forms thick underwater meadows that are vital for marine ecosystems. Is Seagrass safe for birds?
Yes! Seagrass is completely natural, non-toxic, and free from harmful chemicals. It’s fibrous texture makes it perfect for chewing, shredding, and playing, helping to support your bird’s natural instincts, as well as beak and foot health. It’s also safe for other small pocket pets, and is commonly used in natural toys for rabbits and guinea pigs.
Is Seagrass sanitised before making into toys?
Yes, all seagrass matting used for my products and toys get a thorough brush and are disinfected with a natural disinfectant. They are then completely sun and air dried outside before being used in my products. -
Although primarily designed for birds and parrots, many of my products can also be enjoyed by other small pets, including rabbits, rats, mice, sugar gliders, and guinea pigs. Where applicable, I’ve noted suitability for pocket pets at the bottom of each item description. Please review the toy details carefully and consider your pet’s chewing and ingestion habits before purchasing, as not all of my items may be appropriate for non-feathered companions.
Supporting A Rescue
-
This option lets you purchase toys that go directly to a selected bird rescue. It’s a wonderful way to support birds in care by providing enriching, stimulating toys that help reduce stress and encourage natural behaviours. Every bird deserves fun, comfort, and mental engagement — especially those in rescue environments. You’ll be making a direct impact by brightening their lives while they wait for their forever homes.
-
No, these toys are sent directly to the rescue organization — not to your address.
-
As these orders are considered donations and sent directly to rescues, we’re unable to offer refunds for change of mind.
-
Yes! Simply choose the “Ship to Sanctuary” shipping option at checkout, and note down your chosen rescue and optional note in the text box during checkout. You can find information about each rescue here.
-
More rescues will be added over time! If there's a registered rescue or sanctuary you'd like to support, feel free to get in touch. All organisations must be verified and have given permission before being listed on my store to receive donations.
-
Absolutely! If you’re following along and are passionate about helping birds in need, you’re very welcome to donate from overseas. International customers can simply select the “Ship to Sanctuary” option at checkout, and note down your chosen sanctuary to send some toys directly to one of our partnered rescues.
Not sure which native plants are safe for your birds?
Below are some picture examples of great native plants you can collect and offer for your birds to browse! Many of these come in different colors and can usually be found in local bushland, parks, or along walking tracks. There are plenty of other safe options as well—I’ll include a link at the bottom with a more comprehensive list, including both safe and toxic plants.
When foraging, choose healthy-looking foliage that is free from bird droppings, disease, or exposure to chemicals. Avoid plants growing near busy roads. I often place fresh branches straight into my birds' cages after a quick rinse, but for extra precaution, washing them with diluted vinegar water is a good practice. It's essential to select safe plants, as some can be highly toxic to birds.
If you collect nuts or seed pods, be sure to brush and rinse them thoroughly. Allow them to dry well in the sun, or bake them on a low setting in the oven for an hour or two to eliminate any pests. Native nuts and pods make fantastic crunchy foot toys and can also be added to foraging toys or drilled and attached to toys for natural enrichment.
If your bird loves to bathe like mine, try wetting some leafy branches and hanging them up—many birds enjoy fluffing their feathers against damp leaves!
What are the benefits of native foliage?
Offering plant materials is beneficial for any pet bird, as they enjoy peeling bark from branches, nibbling on leaves and getting their beak into the seed pods. It’s also a free alternative to toys if your bird just isn’t a fan of chewing on homemade or store-bought products—sometimes they may just prefer more simple and natural enrichment!
